Nanni Menetti

CRIOGRAFIE

From 12 to 23 December 2021

The Exhibition

Cryographies, from the Greek scriptures of frost.

Nanni Menetti has been working with writing material for years, which lately has involved natural frost. A unicum in the history of art. Cryographies,  are an absolute invention of him. It is a whole new form of declining the Duchampian ready madeintended, in case, to bring back to our attention nature and the need, for us, to safeguard all its salvific and pure (but precisely salvific because it is pure) creativity.

In the artist's intention, the Cryographies, find their reason for being on three levels: in the artist's private life, repaying him for the disappointments he felt as a child when the arabesques of his frozen windows vanished in the sun; in the history of art, since they allow him to realize, 2500 years later, the dream of the painter Zeusi to paint by canceling the human hand, an absence themed in general in the libretto that the artist published at the Campanotto Publisher of Udine (Nanni Menetti, L’artista non ha mai avuto mani) and, finally, in the criticism implicit in them of the distorted use that our culture has come to make of the representationIn fact, Menetti does not exhibit photographed or represented Cryographies, but directly the constructions of the frost, to which he has managed to give duration and permanence over time.
