“Les Amoureux du Cinéma” evokes, in each of Duriez's canvases, the magic of cinema, a place created for dreaming, having fun, being moved, and experiencing emotion.
The canvases recall the "surrealist" spirit of Fellini, where winking, restless glances intersect, and through them love and ambiguity vie for supremacy among the characters in a harmony of colors with which the artist paints the infinite nuances of cinema.
Duriez brings an ambitious project to Bologna with his exhibition, rich in vivid color sequences that take the viewer on a journey into the heart of cinema. The exhibition features four theaters within the Circuito Cinema Bologna that host his works: Odeon, Rialto, Roma d’Essai, and Europa.
The artist, with a playful and cheerful personality that reflects the very spirit of his work, also wanted to reserve a little surprise for visitors: at the Europa theater on Via Pietralata, visitors can see some works on cinema created by his friends, who, for the occasion, have taken on the role of artists: a way to spread art and actively engage viewers.
The Artist
In 1969, Jean Pierre Duriez , a twenty-year-old from Paris with a great passion for art, met Pablo Picasso and told him, "I want to be a painter!"
This meeting would shape his artistic career, during which he cultivated, in addition to painting, many artistic passions, including cinema, screenwriting, set design, photography, and theater, thus expressing his creativity in various artistic fields.
Duriez was actively involved in the world of cinema, also working as an actor and boasting collaborations with artists such as Giuseppe Tornatore and Francesca Archibugi.
Although painting has been the leitmotif of his entire artistic career, he has never neglected his love for theater, especially cinema. His works are often inspired by his encounters with actors, directors, set designers, and other leading figures in the world of cinema and theater.
