Was the Mausoleum of Theodoric a funerary monument for the king?

CARP, the Association for Social Promotion, is announcing an Art Competition to celebrate the 1500th anniversary of the death of the Ostrogoth king, which occurred in Ravenna on August 30, 526 AD.

The theme of the Art Competition focuses on the Mausoleum of Theodoric. “Was it a funerary monument for the king? Of course, but not only that. The great stone blocks of the Mausoleum of Theodoric whisper tales and legends. They speak of a child who was afraid of lightning, was sent as a hostage to Byzantium, then returned, became a powerful ruler, and conquered Italy. A king has friends and enemies, can be generous and ruthless, loves and betrays. In this building, admired for centuries by engineers and architects, painters and poets, his secret is kept. A mystery halfway between the human and the divine, told in sixteen stories, ancient, future, and timeless.”

The Art Competition is open to all artists of legal age, regardless of gender or nationality.

To participate in the Art Competition, works must be classified as wall art, albeit with full stylistic and technical freedom, and must be unpublished.

From all participants in the Competition, the Technical Jury will choose the prize winners.
